Cal Poly Unveils New Donor-Funded Beach House Facility at Swanson Beach Volleyball Resort

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — It was another milestone day for the Cal Poly beach volleyball program on Tuesday as the brand new, donor-funded Beach House was unveiled in a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The Beach House at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex will provide student-athletes with their own home where they can study, watch a movie to prepare for upcoming games, a fueling and nutrition station, and a place to relax and bond. as a team. Exterior upgrades include a roll-up garage door that will open or face the courts and have overhanging awnings to keep the space cool from the sun. Additionally, it will provide offices for head and assistant coaches. Previously, the program shared space with the indoor volleyball program.

The donor-funded project, which was generously funded by Bill and Cheryl Swanson, provides the program with much-needed space adjacent to the Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex.

“After watching our team take on the best in the country, with their logo tents on the sides, Cheryl and I realized our Mustangs didn’t have their own space at the resort,” Bill Swanson said. “After the completion of Mustang Golf Academy and seeing how golf student-athletes use their clubhouse to create a cohesive team, we knew adding this component to the range facility was essential. to ensure that the program continues to have a best-in-class facility.”

“Cheryl and I are thrilled to fund the Beach House and look forward to following the program as it continues to compete for Nationals,” added Swanson. “Our student-athletes deserve the best!”

“What an amazing setup for our beach team with our new Beach House right next to the best beach volleyball complex in the country,” Rogers said. “We were fortunate to be able to share offices with the indoor volleyball team and I am very grateful to the indoor team and to Coach Walters and his staff for being great teammates. Team players are equally excited and grateful for the new facility and will improve their daily quality of life on campus.

“I am so grateful to benefit from the continued growth of our beach volleyball program,” senior Delaney Peranich said. “A critical part of this continued growth is having our own office and team room. I could see this space being used for potlucks, team meetings, movie review, pre-record rituals. -game, outings and much more. But more importantly, the beach house will serve as our home base. Having this space specifically for our team will undoubtedly deepen the community and camaraderie within our program.

“It was really cool to be part of this program as it evolved,” senior Kalee Graff said. “I know the Beach House is the last missing piece that will make my teammates, myself, and all incoming players feel like beach volleyball has always belonged to Cal Poly Athletics. I look forward to have a private space on campus and it will for sure make my life more convenient.”

“When I visited Cal Poly five years ago, the program had no on-campus hospitality space and the coaches had a small office to share,” said one graduate student. Mariah Whalen. “The transformation of this program and its facilities has been incredible, in large part due to the support system we have. The Beach House not only gives us a space to relax, but a distraction-free space to do our business. I am thrilled to see the impact this has on the team during competitive season when we can open the garage door on tournament weekends and have a place where everyone can relax and recuperate.

There will be four home events this season at the Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex for fans to come and support the team, with the first in March and the flagship event, the Center of Effort Beach Volleyball Challenge, on April 14-15, 2023 hosting eight of the top beach volleyball programs across the country.
