The donor-funded project, which was generously funded by Bill and Cheryl Swanson, provides the program with much-needed space adjacent to the Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex.
“After watching our team take on the best in the country, with their logo tents on the sides, Cheryl and I realized our Mustangs didn’t have their own space at the resort,” Bill Swanson said. “After the completion of Mustang Golf Academy and seeing how golf student-athletes use their clubhouse to create a cohesive team, we knew adding this component to the range facility was essential. to ensure that the program continues to have a best-in-class facility.”
“Cheryl and I are thrilled to fund the Beach House and look forward to following the program as it continues to compete for Nationals,” added Swanson. “Our student-athletes deserve the best!”
For the head coach Todd Rogersspace is a welcome new addition that will be of great benefit to the entire program and help to continue to elevate it to be one of the best programs in the country.
“What an amazing setup for our beach team with our new Beach House right next to the best beach volleyball complex in the country,” Rogers said. “We were fortunate to be able to share offices with the indoor volleyball team and I am very grateful to the indoor team and to Coach Walters and his staff for being great teammates. Poly for the past few years but it’s been really special for our team and staff to now have a place to really call home Thanks to Bill and Cheryl Swanson for pitching the idea of converting the former offices of beach house golf and making it a reality for the beach girls! We are really looking forward to welcoming this next spring and being able to hang out in our new digs at the best beach volleyball competition in the world. countries, the COE Challenge.”
Team players are equally excited and grateful for the new facility and will improve their daily quality of life on campus.
“I am so grateful to benefit from the continued growth of our beach volleyball program,” senior Delaney Peranich said. “A critical part of this continued growth is having our own office and team room. I could see this space being used for potlucks, team meetings, movie review, pre-record rituals. -game, outings and much more. But more importantly, the beach house will serve as our home base. Having this space specifically for our team will undoubtedly deepen the community and camaraderie within our program.
“It was really cool to be part of this program as it evolved,” senior Kalee Graff said. “I know the Beach House is the last missing piece that will make my teammates, myself, and all incoming players feel like beach volleyball has always belonged to Cal Poly Athletics. I look forward to have a private space on campus and it will for sure make my life more convenient.”
“When I visited Cal Poly five years ago, the program had no on-campus hospitality space and the coaches had a small office to share,” said one graduate student. Mariah Whalen. “The transformation of this program and its facilities has been incredible, in large part due to the support system we have. The Beach House not only gives us a space to relax, but a distraction-free space to do our business. I am thrilled to see the impact this has on the team during competitive season when we can open the garage door on tournament weekends and have a place where everyone can relax and recuperate.
There will be four home events this season at the Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex for fans to come and support the team, with the first in March and the flagship event, the Center of Effort Beach Volleyball Challenge, on April 14-15, 2023 hosting eight of the top beach volleyball programs across the country.
