Hotels, restaurants and shops planned for the Kino Sports complex
TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) – Several new equipment is arriving at the Kino Sports and Entertainment Complex, the Pima County Supervisory Board said on Wednesday.
The board of directors voted 3-2 in a meeting Tuesday to approve the business plan and development agreement with Maryland-based Knott Development, according to a press release from the board office.
The plan outlines the financing structure and potential income from additional facilities, which include an ice sports complex, a sports complex with indoor multi-use fields, multi-family housing, hotels, retail and catering spaces, a medical office building, three outdoor event and community plazas and new connections to the Chuck Huckelberry Loop.
“The development of the Kino Sports and Entertainment Complex will have extraordinary effects on the quality of life in Pima County, especially for our youth,” said District 1 Supervisor Rex Scott.
According to the press release, Knott Development will spend the next 10 months fine-tuning the financial and operational aspects of the project in a “pre-development work phase”.
“I’ll be in Tucson every two weeks as we develop and build this project,” said Knott Development President Frank Knott. “When creating the development plan, we talked and listened to local community groups and incorporated their ideas to improve the long-term impact of Kino district for the community … Our goal is to weave the development of the district. of Kino into the fabric of all aspects of the local community.
Going forward, Knott said, he plans to work with local schools to benefit from the resort’s facilities and programs, and to hold “town hall” meetings to get more public comment.
Members of the board of directors said in the press release that the expansion of the Kino sports complex is expected to make it a “premier” location in the southwest for sporting and cultural events and bring new jobs to the city. community. The partnership is expected to bring income to the county, bring economic benefits to the region, and reduce the county’s risks associated with development and operation.
Currently, the Kino Sports Complex spans 300 acres and has 22 soccer fields, 10 baseball fields, five full-service pavilions and more than 5,000 parking spaces.
