Japanese hotel gives you draft beer in your room, 10 liters of craft beer to drink for free

This equates to over 17 pints per night.

It’s always nice to check into a hotel and find that the amenities include some sort of free drink waiting for you in your room. Whether it’s packets of instant coffee, green tea bags or even bottled water, these thirst-quenching gifts are always appreciated.

But there’s a hotel in Japan that takes this concept to a whole new level, and perhaps to the highest possible level, by putting a beer tap in every room and giving you a massive amount of free beer to drink..

Situated in Shizuoka City, The Villa & Barrel Lounge just opened this summer. The company behind it, however, West Coast Brewery, had already established itself as one of Japan’s most popular craft breweries, and the hotel is located directly across from the brewery. So, with such a short distribution line, each of the hotel’s five rooms is equipped with its own beer tap and a supply of 10 liters (338 ounces) of West Coat Brewing beer per night, free of charge, for guests to enjoy. Plus, it’s an infusion specifically designed for hotel room faucets and not available anywhere else.

▼ The faucet in this room, for example, can be seen in the alcove to the left of the photo.

10 liters equals more than 17 pints or more than 28 cans of beerwhich could be more than you and your fellow travelers can consume in one night, don’t worry. Any remaining beer in your allowance is yours to take with you provided you have a growler (essentially a bottle for storing soft drinks, like beer).

If you need even more beer during your stay, or just fancy a change of scenery or mingle with the locals, the first floor of the building, called Barrel Lounge, is a West Coast dining room Brewing.

Hotel reservations can be made here. And if you’re looking for a soft drink to nurse on the second day of your trip to Shizuoka, this unique local cola should do the trick.
