New hotel proposed on King Street

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – A new hotel is proposed on King Street, in the heart of the downtown shopping district.

The developers say the hotel would also include shopping opportunities and a restaurant.

Charleston city leaders are set to review plans to completely renovate the building at 284 King Street, which sits between Society Street and Wentworth Street. Plans also include a location at 93 Society Street, but the developers say all current addresses would be connected.

The building is currently vacant, but the photos of 283 King Street are at least 60 years old.

The developer is proposing a total renovation starting with the front facade and extending to the lane on Society Street. They say this is where they would build a new structure for the hotel.

The developers tried to get this project through the City of Charleston Technical Review Committee, but this has already been turned down.
