UPDATE: Woman found dead at Brookhaven hotel after wellness check

A woman with a Natchez address on her driver’s license was found dead in Brookhaven this morning after a welfare check brought officials to Motel 6.

Lincoln County Deputy Coroner John Riggs said Franklin County Sheriff’s Office officials called the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Brookhaven Police Department about a woman’s check. who would have stayed in a hotel in Brookhaven.

Franklin County Sheriff James Newman said the woman’s employer called about an employee not showing up for work. They told the sheriff’s office what type of vehicle she was driving, and that information was passed to the LCSO and BPD so they could search for her car.

Brookhaven Police Chief Kenneth Collins said his department received a call around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office asking for help locating the missing person.

His car was spotted at the motel and Collins said the individual was found dead at Motel 6 in Brookhaven. He declined to divulge any further information.

Riggs got the call to come to the scene around 11:45 a.m. today, he said. He also noted that the woman has been identified, but not all of her family members have been notified of her death.

He expected the information to be released early Thursday.
